Super Finishing Process

Description

Calico Super Finishing is a surface finishing technology that removes microscopic peaks, component stresses and stress risers generated during the machining cycle. A minimal amount of material removal (3/10000 of an inch) leaves an isotropic or uniform surface finish of less than 2-3 micro-inch.

Substrate(s)

  • Tool Steels
  • Maraging Steels

Temp. Ratings

  • Process Temp: 72°(22°C)

Thickness

  • Thickness (mil): -0.2 - -0.1

Color(s)

  • High Luster

Process

Calico Isotropic Super Finishing is achieved through a multi-step, chemically accelerated vibratory process. This unique process removes the 'peaks' that remain after manufacturing of any machined metal component and creates a uniform, high luster finish.

Advantages

Increase fuel economy, Reduce friction, Reduce driveline loses, Reduce contact fatigue, Increase power density, Reduce lubrication requirements and costs, Lower operating temperatures, Extend average time between maintenance cycles, Reduce vibration and noise, Extend part life and reduce instances of part failure, Reduce maintenance costs, No break-in required.
